A GROUP of youths who terrorised Trafford’s Metrolink stations and threatened people with knives have been hit with Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions.

The six youths, aged between 12 and 15, were responsible for a series of serious anti-social behaviour incidents in Sale town centre and around Altrincham.

Some of the incidents involved threatening members of the public with knives.

The group’s exploits made life a misery for residents and businesses near the tram stations and along Navigation Road and in Navigation Park.

But Trafford Council has taken tough action against the group as they strive to ensure that Trafford remains the safest borough in Greater Manchester.

The council successfully applied for six Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions, which bans the youths from socialising together and being near Metrolink stations unless in the company of an adult guardian.

The court order explicitly prohibits the youths from carrying knives or blades and from threatening or using violence.

Joanne Hyde, Corporate Director Resources at Trafford Council, said: “This case shows we will take robust action to keep Trafford the safest place to live in Greater Manchester.

“We want everyone to enjoy living, learning, working and playing in our borough and it is unacceptable for a very small number of people to have a negative impact on people’s lives.

“Our community safety team will continue to work hard to keep Trafford safe and take action quickly where and when it is needed.”

The full conditions of the Orders are:

1. Prohibited from being in possession of any knife, blade or sharply pointed implement at any location in Trafford.

2. Excluded from any of the five named Metrolink Stations or any land that forms part of those Stations except for when travelling with a parent or guardian (Altrincham, Navigation Road, Timperley, Brooklands and Sale)

3. Prohibited from associating together unless attending a supervised activity with either staff from Trafford Council or within an educational setting as per a set timetable.

Breaking any of the terms of the order is a criminal offence and will lead to a criminal record for the youths.
