THE 'Oscars' of the fish and chip world has awarded its highest honour to a traditional family-run fish and chip business with branches in Trafford.

The Good Catch, which has chip shops in Brook Road, Flixton and Stamford Park Road, Hale, has been crowned the best fish and chip business in the country at a glittering awards show at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

The business, which has six establishments across the North West, including two in Trafford, scooped the Best Multiple Fish and Chip Operator Award at the prestigious ceremony, organised by sustainable seafood champions Seafish.

Three-generations of the Pittaras family took to the stage to receive the distinguished trophy from awards host and voice of food and drink on BBC Radio 2, Nigel Barden.

Chris Pittaras, owner of The Good Catch, said: “We operate a family run business and our heritage is firmly embedded in the industry, with our grandfather and father owning and operating their own fish and chip businesses as well.

"We pride ourselves on our reputation of providing great service and quality, so to be recognised among some of the best in the industry for delivering the highest standards across all of our locations is a real honour.

“We have worked to combine traditional fish and chips with a modern take on customer service, eco friendliness, sustainability and quality, so that residents are proud to have one of our shops in their communities.

"Our owners, managers and staff live and breathe fish and chips, and this award is a testament to their hard work.”

The shops are run by Pittaras family's four brothers and sisters - Alison, Chris, Michelle and Rob. For the past five years, the family have sought to combine traditional food with a modern view of sustainability and eco-friendliness.

Owner, Alison Mattravers, said: “We at The Good Catch are really proud of the quality of our food and of our shops.

“We feel it is really important to maintain a traditional fish and chip shop menu, but also to combine this with our modern view on eco friendliness and sustainability.

“We and all of our staff put so much effort into what we do, so for our family business to be recognised in this way is a massive achievement and a great reward."

The award-winning Good Catch Hale (opposite Altrincham Football Club) and its sister outlet in Urmston are both listed in the Official Guide to the UK’s top 100 Fish and Chip Shops.
