A DAREDEVIL mum from Urmston wants to reach new heights with her charity work by strapping herself onto the wings of a plane and taking to the skies.

Urmston mum Anna Barker will become a daredevil for a day to raise money for Parkinson's UK, a charity that strives to improve the lives of people living with the disease.

Anna says her courage to perform the high-flying stunt comes from watching her step-mum bravely battle Parkinson's disease for 20 years.

Anna's step-mum Sue was diagnosed with the debilitating disease when she was just 48-years-old. But Anna says her step-mum has been an inspiration by continuing to live her life to the fullest.

Anna said: “My stepmother Sue is doing amazingly considering how long she’s had Parkinson’s, which is definitely down to her incredible spirit.

"She’s fought it every step of the way and never lets her Parkinson’s get in the way of what she wants to do. She’s inspirational.

“I’m really looking forward to the Wing Walk and doing something completely out of my comfort zone. Being strapped on top of a plane isn’t anything in comparison to the bravery and determination shown by people with Parkinson’s."

Anna will be take to the skies above North Yorkshire for her Wing Walk at Breighton Aerodrome on Saturday, May 12.

She will be joined by her friend Debbie Clark who will be fundraising for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Together they’re aiming to raise £1,000 for their chosen charities.

Anna said: “It’s great to raise money to help support and improve the lives of people with the condition.

“Doing a Wing Walk is something Debbie and I have always talked about, and with our 40th birthdays approaching we decided to stop making excuses and just do it!

"We want to prove to ourselves that getting older doesn’t mean the end of being adventurous."

Sarah Green, Regional Fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK in the North West, said: “Thank you to Anna for choosing to support Parkinson’s UK with her Wing Walk.

“The money raised from her fundraising challenge will fund research to help to find a cure and improve the lives of the 145,000 people across the UK living with Parkinson’s.”

Parkinson's UK is the UK's leading charity supporting those with the condition. Its mission is to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's through cutting edge research, information, support and campaigning.
