LAST Friday, I was honoured to be asked to entertain the distinguished guests at Trafford Town Hall for the Mayor and Mayoress of Trafford’s Civic Reception.
The evening, hosted by our current Mayor, Cllr Jonathan Coupe, was to raise funds for the Mayor’s three chosen charities — Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Brain Tumour Research and also The Alex Hulme Foundation, who are a lovely family that I have had the privilege to perform and fundraise for on a number of occasions.
I was fascinated to learn that Cllr Coupe has proudly followed in his late father’s footsteps in becoming the Mayor of Trafford — the first ever father and son to represent the borough as mayor!
After the champagne reception, complete with a live jazz quartet which was right up my street, guests were then welcomed by the mayor and seated for a delicious three-course meal.
That was followed by a raffle and an auction with some fantastic prizes. I even won a prize!
I had my eye on a bottle of bubbly but instead won a manicure voucher, much to my Val’s delight!
I then performed my set of Sinatra and the Rat Pack classic songs, which had everyone up dancing.
Guests in attendance included The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Ceremonial Mayor and Mayoress of Salford, Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton, Mayor and Mayoress of Wigan, Mayor and Consort of Tameside, Mayor and Consort of Bury, Mayor and Consort of Stockport, Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham, Mayor of Rochdale, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Susan Craig, Deputy Mayor of Trafford Tom Ross and Kate Green MP.
On Saturday, I performed at a diamond wedding anniversary. I’d like to wish Mavis and Ken Wardle a very happy 60th wedding anniversary and thank them for having me as part of their very special day.
Ken jokingly told me that marriage is a three-ring circus. There’s the engagement ring then the wedding ring and that’s quickly followed by the suffering!
Please get in touch if you have a milestone birthday or anniversary and I will try to give you a mention!
