SPRING is a great time to start freshening things up.

Our home may look dull and colourless after the Christmas festivities, evenings are often cold and dark, our windows may be in need of a clean.

But spring can also be a good time to review ourselves, our lives and possibly any resolutions we set ourselves at New Year.

If you are looking to spring-clean several areas of your life, not just your home, let's have a look at ways to support your success.

Whether you are looking to lose weight, make new friends or learn another skill, there are a few things to help.

* Be clear that any goals New Year goals you set are still relevant to you. Reactive changes like, 'I'll show them!' are fine, but often run out of steam before too long. It's often our inner belief and determination that sustains our motivation levels long term.

* Clear out clutter and make space for your goals. If we are stressed, tired or bogged down with physical, mental or emotional clutter, it can be tempting to give up and lose focus. Use spring as a good time to clear the clutter from your life so you can commit to doing what you need to do.

* Write down your goals and intentions. Maybe start again and write them clearly in the front of your diary or notebook. Use the present tense. Write motivational notes and stick them on your mirror, work station or notice board. Remind yourself regularly of your positive intentions and determination to succeed.

* Intermittent rewards and treats are a good way to encourage ongoing success and enthusiasm. Give yourself credit for each month's achievements. Celebrate each stepping-stone rather than focus solely on the ultimate goal itself.

* Be gentle with yourself if you slip-up or don't achieve the same as others. Start again immediately and book another driving lesson or training session. Be motivated by others but don't compare yourself and your achievements to theirs. Everyone has very different stories and situations.

* Let family and friends provide encouragement. Accept their help and support and appreciate that they need to know what's going on in order to be there for you. Include them in your master-plan and enjoy having them on your team.

Clear your home and mind of unnecessary clutter and use spring as the springboard to the new energised you!
