TRAFFORD College have received a grant of £100,000 to install a brand new multifunctional kitchen.

The funding boost for the new facility will give students a first-hand experience working in an environment equal to, most commercial kitchens in the North West.

The improvements will also increase numbers on the college’s apprenticeship provision, offer more available classroom space and

provide more opportunity to collaborate more with local schools.

The classroom space will also allow better planning for more enrichment days to showcase the facilities to future hospitality students.

Hospitality teacher Matt Shaw said: “We are passionate about collaborating with schools and believe we need to educate younger people about the hospitality sector, and the diversity of jobs that are available. It is our responsibility to sell hospitality as a career.”

Funded by The Savoy Educational Trust, an independent grant giving charitable trust, the six figure sum is part of their bid to help hospitality related projects, such as educational establishments to enhance training and facilities for their hospitality departments.

The charities' main aim is to advance and develop education, training and qualifications within the hospitality industry.

Students at the college have already enrolled for two new cake decorating classes and recruitment is due to start for a Junior Chefs Academy, with other additional part time courses due to be released.

The innovative classroom boasts a full Induction range - a new technology in kitchens that allows the college to be more sustainable in the kitchen and reduce its carbon footprint.
