ALTRINCHAM extended their unbeaten run to 16 games with a comfortable 4-0 win at Sutton Coldfield Town last Saturday.

In the clash between top and bottom of the Evo-Stik Premier, the Robins had the game virtually won inside 11 minutes, by which time Altrincham had already amassed a three-goal lead on the 3G pitch at Coles Lane.

It was Alty's top scorer, Jordan Hulme, who fired his side ahead in the second minute with a shot which perhaps should not have beaten the keeper.

The visitors' second came when a corner found centre-back James Jones, who headed home in the ninth minute.

Altrincham's third arrived two minutes later when Shaun Densmore's free kick from just inside the opposition half was met by an unchallenged header from captain Jake Moult.

Although Altrincham started the second half brightly, a consistent theme of this period was their failure to take chances. Hulme had several presentable opportunities which included two one-on-ones against Nicky Draper from which the home keeper emerged victorious.

The Royals came into the match a little more in the second half but they did not trouble Tony Thompson in the Robins' goal until 10 minutes from time when the offside trap failed and Matt Walters hammered a shot against the upright as he got clear of the Altrincham defence.

It was not until added time that Thompson actually had to make a save, but when he did it was a superb reaction block to a close-range effort.

Altrincham face a difficult away trip to Alfreton Town on Saturday in the FA Trophy.
