A SUNDAY Stableford at Ashton saw Division One topped by Paul Cooper, with 41 points, from Glynn Taylor (40).

In Division Two, Harvey Leeming led in with 37 points from Nicholas Clayton (36).

A single division Tuesday Stableford at Ashton saw JJ Dowler in total control with 42 points, six clear of John Rice, Phil Savage and the consistent Tony Lambert.

A Bonfire Night Stableford at Brookdale saw Brian King on fire as he won a card play-off on 42 points from Thomas Barlow, one more than Dave Turner.

Martin Dwyer showed his enduring class at Stamford as he topped Division One in a singles Stableford with 30 points from Jamie Chadwick (29) and Roger Harrop and Steve Moores (both 28).

Division Two honours went to Phil Lord after a card play-off on 30 points with David Gilmore, and in Division Three Phil Nokes was first past the post with 30 points ahead of David Thurston (29) and Eric Nield, Edward Tapper and David Mulvey (all 28).

A singles Stableford at Werneth was won by L Appleby with 39 points, two more than D Ashford and M Conway.

The Nahum Cup is one of the most historic and prestigious trophies played for by ladies in the local golf scene and it is staged each year at the magnificent Manchester Golf Club.

A good field enjoyed some excellent weather and Bury star Andrea Holt was unstoppable as she posted a fine card of 75-8=67.

It left her well clear of Bev Scholes (Rochdale GC) who won a card play-off on 74 from Angie Howarth, of Stand, with Jenny Higginbotham from Bramhall GC in fourth place with 75.

The best gross of 80 was carded by Wad Grayson of Ringway Golf Club.

Presenting the trophy and prizes was Brenda Flett, who stood in for Nahum Cup president Beryl Page who was unavailable, and she was joined by Jennifer Holt of Manchester GC.

High Legh Park presented a course in great condition and a full field took full advantage of excellent conditions to post some big scores.

In the pro-am section Northenden’s Graham Neville found a great partner in Pat Loftus from The Mere Resort who helped him amass a huge haul of 48 points to finish ahead of fast-finishing Swinton Park duo Dave Smith and the consistent Jimmy O’Reilly by a point, with Colin Moroney and Andy Fletcher of Bolton Old Links winning a card play-off on 46 points to take third place.

In the am-am section, 48 points was again the order of the day from Stamford’s dynamic pairing of Paul Traynor and Richard Margrave.

Again they were pressed all the way by Marcus Corfield (Swinton Park) and Dave Smith (Ellesmere), with 47, and Norman Haslam (Stand) and Charlie Rodgers (Pike Fold), who scored 46.

The top individual pro with 43 points was Paul Grannell (Vale Royal Abbey) from Dave Smith (Swinton Park), on 42, and Dave Green (Dukinfield), on 41.

The top assistant pro’s prize was won by Andy Palmer (Chorley) with 40 points.
