BROOKLANDS MU earned a creditable 3-3 draw against reigning Men's Hockey League Premier Division champions and current leaders Surbiton last weekend.

Against opposition including seven Great Britain internationals, the speed, power and composure of Sam Perrin resulted in an early breakthrough for Brooklands.

The pressure was sustained and with numerous attacks down the right between Oliver Clarke, David Flanagan and Aidan Khares, corners and chances came thick and fast.

Captain Peter Flanagan led from the front while Chris Scott also got in on the action with a double save from a short corner.

A fortuitous goal from the Surbiton side came against the run of play and levelled the scores at half time.

After the break, a soft goal made it 2-1 to Surbiton but Brooklands responded through Peter Cornell with a back-post tap in after good work from Perrin and Richard Slater.

And they edged ahead when a smart short-corner routine ended with Khares deflecting home from close range.

With 90 seconds left on the clock it was heartbreak for Brooklands, though, as a speculative shot which was sailing wide was deflected home by a Surbiton forward.

Despite being denied the win, it was a notable result for Brooklands against a talented Surbiton side.
