WELL PHARMACY has been offering free blood pressure tests across Trafford in support of World Stroke Day.

Along with the Stroke Association, the pharmacy visited Sale and Partington along with other towns in Greater Manchester to deliver 120 blood pressure checks, with the aim to raise awareness of the link between high blood pressure and stroke.

Esmee Russell, Head of Prevention and Campaigns at the Stroke Association, said: “In the UK, someone has a stroke around every five minutes. But sadly, we know that not enough people realise how often stroke strikes, or that there are simple things we can all do to reduce our risk, like having a blood pressure check.

“High blood pressure is a leading cause of stroke, and there are over 5 million people in England unaware that they may be at risk. That’s why Well pharmacy’s health events are so important in raising awareness. Strokes are devastating, but they can be prevented.”

Adedayo Titiloye, Regional Development Manager at Well for the Greater Manchester area, commented: “We organised these in-store events to support World Stroke Day this year, with a focus on stroke prevention to raise awareness of stroke risks and to highlight the steps we can all take to prevent stroke. By offering blood pressure checks and advice on how to lower or avoid high blood pressure, the single biggest controllable risk factor for stroke, we can have a positive impact on reducing this risk within our local community”.

“A blood pressure check is quick and painless, and it could save your life, so we would urge anyone who has not yet taken advantage of this free service, to pop into their local Well pharmacy.”
