TWO rabbits in Altrincham, who were dumped on the bank of a river are looking for a second chance.

A dog walker spotted the lionhead rabbits on the bank of the River Mersey in January this year.

Nadine Pengilly, from the RSPCA went to the bank and found three rabbits soaked in their urine and left in a sodden box. One was about six weeks old and the other two just two weeks old and both very small.

They have been named Brooke, River and Mersey. Brooke has already found her forever home but River and Mersey are still to find theirs.

Joanne Yoli, a fosterer for the RSPCA Altrincham branch in Cheshire has been looking after them for the past eight months.

Joanne said: “The poor rabbits could have died if they had been left out in the cold any longer. After being abandoned in this way they really do deserve a second chance at happiness and are looking to be rehomed together.

“Because the little ones were so weak when they were found they needed feeds every couple of hours.

“Now the pair are healthy and growing stronger. They are just going with the flow and waiting for their forever home.”

The five month old rabbits have now been vaccinated and neutered and ready for their new home.

River is the grey female and Mersey is the black male. They are both confident, friendly and inquisitive but they do not like to be picked up.

They would need to be able to go outside and need their own space to relax. They could live with children and most of all they want to be adopted together.
