ST Bede’s College, Manchester, is delighted that students from another talented cohort are celebrating success in their A levels.

Building on its tradition of success in STEM subjects, some of them will be moving on to medical and dental schools.

Chemical engineering, computer science and chemistry courses also remain firm favourites.

Three students from St Bede’s are celebrating securing their places on medical degree courses.

Charlotte Killingley from Altrincham, who after securing an A* in biology and As in chemistry and mathematics will take up her place at Birmingham University to study medicine.

Tom Brewer from Heaton Moor, who gained 2 A*s in biology and mathematics and an A in chemistry will study medicine at Newcastle University.

He will be joined there by Grace Hamshire from Chorlton, who also gained A* in biology and mathematics and an A in chemistry.

Simon Ketani from Oldham who by his own admission enjoys three spoonfuls of sugar with every cup of tea is heading to Glasgow University to study dentistry after securing A* in economics and As in biology and chemistry.

Conor Wall and Gregory Filbrandt celebrated both continued academic success and the testimony of enduring friendship today. Both students from Chorlton, attended the same primary school together, St. John’s RC Chorlton, and joined St Bede’s together in 2010 at the start of year 7, continuing to work alongside each other.

Conor achieved 3 A*s in chemistry, mathematics and physics and an A in further mathematics. Gregory mirrored his friend perfectly, also achieving 3A*s in chemistry, mathematics and physics with an A in further mathematics.

The talented pair will continue their parallel academic careers at Imperial College, London

Nicolo D’Amico Beccarello from Manchester, has a place to study for a biomedical degree at the University of Edinburgh after securing an A* in mathematics, an A in chemistry, an A in italian and a B in biology.

Deogratias Kalombo is looking forward to beginning his chemistry degree at Manchester University having gained straight A grades in biology, chemistry and mathematics at A level, while at St Bede’s College, Manchester.

Deo, a native French speaker, who lives in Salford, is a very talented all round student who gained an academic bursary to attend St Bede’s in 2010.

In spite of Brexit the entente cordiale survives at St Bedes’s with all A Level French candidates obtaining either an A* or an A. Congratulations to Alexandra Long, Ambroise Normand and Mathieu Tardy (A*) and to Eleanor Jago and Hassan Traboulsi (A). Alexandra Long is pursuing her love of languages at Newcastle University studying a BA in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American having successfully combined sciences and languages with further As in chemistry and Spanish.

In the liberal arts, Andrew Brennan obtained three As in classical studies, English language and English literature, earning him a place at Birmingham University. Emily Stockton achieved an A* in Geography and an A in history, with an A in mathematics showing her versatility. Emily will be studying history at Queen Mary College, London.

This wide range of subject success reflects the excellence of teaching at the college and the flexibility of timetabling which allows students to maximise their strengths.

Headmaster, Dr Robson commented: “With more top grades at St. Bede’s this year, we are proud of every student and the hard work they have put in to achieve their superb results. With 11 of our very top students achieving at least 3 A grades.”

He added: “This year a record number of medicine places were awarded. I would like to thank all the teaching staff for their superb commitment in bringing the very best out of each and every student. Some of our sixth form have been part of the college since they were three years old and we will miss them very much. We know they will keep in contact through our alumni network and will remain part of the Bedian family for a long time to come.”
