A FREE debt counselling service that has helped hundreds of people and families in Altrincham and Partington has announced that there is to be a new face at the helm.

Claire Gregory is to be the new manager of the Altrincham Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Centre, based at the Hub Community Centre.

Prior to taking on her new role, Claire worked for the NHS as a hospital physiotherapist for more than 15 years but she felt prompted to seek a new challenge and work with this award winning UK charity.

Claire said: “As a local girl and having worked with those who have long term health needs, I know the needs that are out there. Financial difficulties often can impact on both the physical as well as mental health of individuals. I really want to help people manage their finances and be part of the solution. CAP’s in-depth care and professionalism really does see lives transformed.”

Altrincham CAP Debt Centre, which is one of 293 across the UK, opened in 2009 and has helped more than 250 people in the town.

Claire and her team offer home visits to some of Britain’s most desperate and isolated people, supporting them until they become debt free.

Claire said: “It’s heart breaking because the majority of people are trapped into debt by job loss, pay cuts, illness or relationship breakdown – times that are difficult enough, without financial hardship.

“The great thing about CAP’s free service is that it is available to everyone – regardless of age, gender, faith or background. So, if you know things are out of control and you’re stressed, missing meals or sleep, please give me a ring on 0800 328 0006.”
