STRETFORD Cricket Club's Hurricanes stormed to a 47-run win against Thornham last weekend as the second XI also triumphed against Ashton Ladysmith's first team.

With the first team rained off at Flowery Field, focus switched to the Lesley Road outfit's other sides and while the Spitfires were beaten by Ashton Ladysmith's seconds, the other two teams were victorious.

On Saturday, Stretford's seconds won the toss and elected to field.

The young opening attack of Kamran Hussain (2-11) and Yash Raj (2-9) bowled well and had Ashton struggling at 22-4 from 13 overs, before Collings and Rogers played sensibly to take Ashton to 64 and Peter Stamper (3-24) and Jeff Marshall (3-20) wrapped up the innings on 92.

The Stretford reply started poorly, falling to 22-4 before youngsters Raj (15) and Ocean O'Malley (28) settled to score slowly but steadily.

Both fell with the score on 66 but then a flurry of boundaries from John Foulkes won the game for Stretford.

On Sunday the Hurricanes hosted Thornham and were inserted by the opposition.

At 110-4 it looked like Stretford were going to post a good total with Eddie McLoughlin (34), Keith Evans (24) and Tom Sydall (32) all getting in, but they collapsed to 138 all out.

After losing Usman Hassan injured after three balls, the rest of the Stretford bowling performed well with Sajid Imam (3-26), Wagstaff (2-30) and Shahid, with a man-of-the-match 5-20, dismissing Thornham for 91.

The result leaves the Hurricanes in second place in the Sunday Premier League.

The Spitfires went to Ashton Ladysmith to play their second team and after an excellent bowling performance with Ethan Page (3-21), Alfie Stamper (2-24), Thomas Coulson (2-11), Kenny Cotton (1-10) and the miserly Matthew Laker (seven overs for two runs), Ashton were bowled out for 106.

Only Nick Walmsley (19) and Alistair Harrison (13) made double figures as Stretford again batted poorly, falling to 90 all out.

This score was mainly thanks to a last-wicket partnership of 35 between Laker (eight not out) and Harrison in 16 overs.

On Saturday, the firsts are at home to Winton, while the seconds visit Flowery Field.

On Sunday, the Hurricanes are away to South West Manchester thirds and the Spitfires at home to Blackley.

Tomorrow it is the annual Adrian Fish junior trios competition from 9.30am, then on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28, it is the Cliff Symon senior trios.

The final of the Ray Van Schoor Foundation six-a-side is on Friday, August 25.
