POLICE used a taser on a man in Hale after reports that he was brandishing a knife.
The officers were called shortly after 2pm yesterday by the ambulance service to reports that the man was carrying the bladed weapon on South Road.
A GMP police spokesman said: "Officers attended and a taser was deployed. A 54-year-old man has been detained under the mental health act.
The spokesman added: "A referral will be made to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
