A PLAN to open a wine bar and shop in Urmston has been submitted to Trafford Council planners.

The application has been made for change of use by agent John Hodkinson on behalf of Fred Davids in which the application is wanting to turn former offices(B1), to a wine bar (A4) and a wine shop (A1), at 20 Station Road.

In his application Mr Hodkinson said that Mr Davids parents are South African and the intended trading name 'Kelder', is Afrikaans for 'cellar' and would complement other similar uses nearby.

Mr Hodkinson explains: "A precedent for approval has been set by the recent granting of planning permission for a wine bar at 40 Flixton Road for another of my clients and there is a current planning application for a bar at 31 Station Road.

"The submitted drawings show the proposed layout. Only the ground floor will be used for the wine shop and wine bar. The upper floors will be accessible only to staff and used for incidental storage."

Mr Hodkinson said the opening hours would be similar to nearby establishments and closure would be midnight during the week and on Sundays and Bank Holidays and 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, with New Year's Eve closure at 2am.

Mr Hodkinson added: "The bar will be managed and run by Mr Davids who lives nearby. He already has a personal licence. He has been selling wine on Urmston Market."

The use proposed will create footfall during the day and the evenings and contribute to the vitality of Urmston town centre.
