THE story of the building of a landlocked lighthouse will be told by Urmston History Society on June 1, starting at 7.30pm, at Urmston Masonic Hall, at 15 Westbourne Road.
The presentation about the 40 feet high folly, will go into the nitty gritty of why 'Barnacle' Phil Austin, decided to build the structure, which serves no obvious purpose, although it does have a light, apart from becoming a local tourist attraction, on the banks of the Bridgewater Canal.
Entry for non-members is £3 and there is free parking and a licensed bar. For more information telephone 748 1356
