A SALE school is being expanded to meet the increased demand for school places in the area.

Wates Smartspace has been appointed by Trafford Council to deliver alterations and extensions to Park Road Primary School in Sale, in a deal worth £1m.

The work for 21 weeks and will include the construction of three extensions to the exiting school building to accommodate additional classrooms and working areas.

Internal works will also be carried out to the existing staffroom, classrooms, storerooms and the entrance area.

As a result of the work, Park Road Primary School will be able to increase its capacity to enrol additional students.

Careful programme management by the Wates Smartspace team means the majority of works will take place outside of term time to minimise disruption and ensure the safety of students and staff members at all times. Any works required while the school remains operational will be kept to a minimum and carefully segregated.

Andy Hughes, business director for Wates Smartspace, said: “This project, delivered through the North West Construction Hub, showcases our commitment to delivering high quality public services at the heart of the local community.

“Wates Smartspace has committed to delivering a number of employment and training programmes as part of our programme. This will include apprenticeships, work placements and careers events such as student visits to the site to raise awareness of the construction industry. We also look forward to engaging with the wider community throughout our time on site to ensure that the work that we deliver leaves a lasting legacy within Sale.”
