MPs Mike Kane and Graham Brady were locked in to the chambers at the Houses of Parliament after an alleged terror attack took place in London this afternoon.
An intruder with a knife managed to break into the grounds of the Houses of Parliament and stabbed a police officer before he was shot, reports suggest.
Several people are also believed to have been injured after being “mowed down” by a car.
MPs, who were about to vote on a pensions bill, were locked into the chambers as a result of the incident.
Speaking from the locked-down chamber, Mr Kane, Wythenshawe and Sale East MP, said: "The overwhelming feeling in the chamber is one of concern and sympathy for the victims.
"The business for the day is obviously suspended and the deputy speaker Lindsay Hoyle is keeping us updated.
"The security incident happened as we were voting so majority of MPs in the chamber/voting lobby now."
Altrincham and Sale West MP Graham Brady said was also in the chamber. He said police acted swiftly and efficiently to ensure the safety of Members and staff but emphasised those outside were in far greater danger.
Stretford and Urmston MP Kate Green also tweeted that she and her staff are safe.
Thanks to everyone for messages, my staff and I are all safe. Thoughts with victims.
