A TROUBLED school in Bowdon has closed - amid claims that school leaders have resigned.

Trafford Council confirmed that Bollin Primary School is closed with immediate effect today.

The school has been at the centre of a leadership row for some months, culminating in a parent protest and teacher strike on Thursday.

On Friday, a video emerged which appeared to show teachers and parents in the headteacher's office afterhours.  Chants about the current headmistress, who parents and teachers have taken issue with, could be heard.

It is reported that headteacher Mrs Brindle nor deputy head Mr McCarthy were not at the school on Monday.

Parents going to pick up their children this afternoon said that they had been told that multiple staff members have resigned in the wake of the recent controversy.

Trafford Council confirmed that Mrs Brindle has not been suspended from her post.

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: “Trafford Council and the Governors of The Bollin Primary School have agreed to close the school with immediate effect. This decision has not been taken lightly but is necessary to ensure the safe operation of the school in the light of concerns about the reduced capacity of the senior leadership at the school.

“The council is also aware of a film that is circulating in relation to the school and is investigating this further.

“Whilst we appreciate this matter will be a disruption to the pupils and family life, it is of the utmost importance to safeguard and protect pupils at the school and the council is actively taking steps to get the school reopened as soon as possible.

“Measures are in place to accommodate pupils until the end of the school day today if necessary but no teaching will take place.”

Parents spoke of their shock after they were notified of the closure earlier this afternoon.

One parent, who did not wish to be named, said: "I am absolutely devastated.  I understand it is a safeguarding issue.  That school cannot run without the excellent leadership team, we are all suffering.

"I am looking at sending my children to other schools."
