POLICE are re-appealing for information after the death of a 94-year-old man, who had suffered a brain injury in a violent robbery in his own home.

Two men forced their way into a property on Priory Close, Sale, in an early morning break in and began searching the place.

The homeowner, a 94-year-old man, was sleeping and heard the commotion before going to investigate, at which point one of the offenders grabbed him and punched him in the face.

The victim was then pushed to the ground and kicked whilst the other man continued to search the address.

The robbers then rifled through the living room before fleeing and leaving the victim on the floor. They stole a quantity of cash that was kept in a jar to pay for parking at his hospital.

Both robbers are described as white men wearing dark blue coats and gloves. One was around 5ft 7in tall and the second approximately 5ft 9in. The incident took place at around 4am on May 22 2016.

The 94-year-old was taken to hospital a few days later with a life-threatening brain injury, where he underwent three operations.

He was later discharged and recovering at home however, he fell ill and sadly died in hospital on February 10. A Home Office Post Mortem examination took place but further tests are required to ascertain the full circumstances of his death.

Detective Inspector Carl Gilbert, of GMP’s Trafford borough, said: “Firstly, I’d like to extend my condolences to the man’s family and my thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“This vile attack put this man through a horrific ordeal and left him hospital-bound with severe injuries.

“It’s deeply troubling that these offenders cared more about a jar of petty cash than they did about the man’s welfare.

“There’s a chance that someone may have heard some commotion or seen the offenders flee the scene and, if so, now is the time to come forward so we can provide some answers to his family.”
