A MAN whose body was found in the canal at Old Trafford has been identified as 52-year-old Ian Nally.

Police had been trying to locate Mr Nally, from Stretford, since he went missing five weeks ago.

They appealed for the public's help to find him.

He was last seen on January 7 at White City Retail Park.

His body was discovered by the skipper of a water taxi after it became caught up in his propeller on Friday morning

When the vessel’s engine cut out, the skipper pulled it out of the water and saw Mr Nally’s body.

A police spokesman said: "At around 9.20am on Friday 10 February 2017, police were called to Trafford Wharf Road in Trafford Park.

"On arrival the body of a man was discovered in the Bridgewater Canal.

"Police are treating the death as non-suspicious and a file has been passed to the coroner."
