UNATTENDED candles are believed to have sparked a 6am flat fire in Sale at the weekend – with two casualties rescued from the building.
Firefighters scrambled to The Pines, in Brooklands Road, shortly before 6am on Saturday February 11.
They found a blaze in a third floor flat and used four breathing apparatus and a hose reel to put the fire out. A fan was also used to clear smoke from the building. Two casualties were treated by the North West Ambulance Service.
Firefighters believe the fire was accidental and caused by candles being left unattended in the flat.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews wish to remind people to never leave candles unattended and always make sure they are extinguished before leaving the house or falling asleep.
