A PETITION has been launched calling for a fully operational accident and emergency department to be reintroduced at Trafford General Hospital - and it has been backed by more than 1,200 people within days.
Trafford's accident and emergency department was replaced by an urgent care centre in 2013.
In October, the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) and Walk-in Centre at Trafford General - the birthplace of the NHS - joined forces.
But a petition to the Government and Parliament, created by Gary Bodell, calls for these changes to be reversed.
It said: "Trafford General Hospital served south Manchester for decades.
"A couple of years ago the A&E was closed and since then residents in this region need to  go elsewhere.
"After a personal experience the A&E at the MRI is overworked and understaffed. Re-open Trafford General as a fully staffed A&E/hospital."
The Government responds to a petition that gets 10,000 signatures, and one that gets 100,000 signatures will be considered for debate in Parliament.
