SOCIAL media company Altrincham HQ is in the running for a top award.

The Altrincham firm has been shortlisted for the Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Award in the Greater Manchester Business Awards

Over the past three years Altrincham HQ has launched Altrincham VS Cancer for the Christie and the Back To School Challenge for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

This year, the fourth Altrincham VS Cancer fundraiser is expected to take the total raised for the leading cancer hospital to more than £10,000

Alex McCann, of Altrincham HQ, said: "The community is a massive part of what we do at Altrincham HQ. We've always said we're 50 per cent business and 50 per cent community.

"I organised the Altrincham VS Cancer events because the Christie helped close friends of mine and I wanted to give something back

"With The Back To School Challenge it was seeing online what the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital was doing for kids in Greater Manchester.

"I think everyone has duty to help others. We might have a business and an audience, but our corporate social responsibility policy simply is to 'be human and care'.

"I'm so proud to be recognised on the shortlist for what we do locally for these great charities

"There's a lot of local businesses that get involved with both events and it really is a group effort

"The Christie and the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital are 2 of the biggest charities in Manchester and their work impacts everyone in Greater Manchester"

In both 2014 and 2015 Altrincham VS Cancer was announced as one of the Top 3 per cent of Justgiving fundraising campaigns and the announcement on the Top 2016 campaigns is imminent

The awards dinner will take place on May 19 at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel, Manchester.
