THE River Mersey was put on Flood Alert yesterday after river levels soared – but the good news is they are now subsiding.
The Environment Agency’s Flood Line put the Middle River Mersey catchment, including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston, on Flood Alert on Sunday January 16.
Residents were told to be prepared for the river bursting its banks after water levels rose by as much as 200 per cent in places, well above the flooding threshold. But the water levels have decreased overnight and the Flood Alert is no longer in force.
