ONE Trafford is delivering a year’s supply of compostable bags to households across Trafford.

Over half of the borough has already received their new roll, with the rest of the compostable bags being delivered before Christmas.

The annual supply is based on a household using three bags per week, but if this is not enough, additional bags will still be provided free of charge. Any resident needing additional bags should contact the One Trafford Partnership to request the bags which will then be delivered directly to the household.

Bin collection crews no longer carry rolls of compostable bags with them, so residents should no longer tie a bag to their green bin or caddy. The provision of compostable bags at libraries has also stopped.

Councillor John Reilly, executive member for economic growth, environment and infrastructure, said: “We are committed to recycling as much food waste as possible which is why we provide the compostable bags for free. Trafford is the best performing borough in Greater Manchester; recycling around 63 per cent of household waste and we want to thank all of our residents for their continued support.

“Each roll has 156 compostable bags but residents who need more can either contact us online or by calling 03330 035865 to order more. Please don’t use plastic bags to recycle your food waste, as these cannot be composted.”

Residents can recycle all of their food waste in their green bin or caddy. All raw and cooked food can be recycled including meat, bones, egg shells, tea bags, peelings and leftovers on the plate. For a full list of what can be recycled, visit trafford.gov.uk/recycling
