AN elderly woman is trying to track down the selfless stranger who saved Christmas.

Ann McDonald, 73, wants to thank a Good Samaritan who handed in hundreds of pounds she had lost whilst on a shopping trip in Urmston last week.

On Friday, Ann withdrew £270 from Halifax in Eden Square so she could buy her loved ones Christmas presents but it was only when she got home from a shopping trip to Sainsbury’s that she realised the money was gone.

She had forgotten her shopping bag, which contained the cash and her bank cards, in a shopping trolley in Eden Square Car Park.

“I panicked, and my husband, who is disabled, panicked even more,” she said. “I rushed back to Sainsbury’s and I saw the bag behind the desk. The general manager said a nice lady handed it in. Everything was in there, anybody could have picked it up and just taken the money, it was a shock that someone could be so honest and nice. I thought, my goodness, I must have a guardian angel looking over me.”

Ann tried to get the details from the manager so she could thank the lady for her kindness but he didn’t have any.

And now she is determined to track her down.

“I want to thank the lady who handed the bag and money in,” she added. “People might think it is only a shopping bag but I really am thankful.”
