A NEW roundabout in memory of a little girl who loved playing on its rundown predecessor is set to be unveiled – and actress Ashley Jensen will be in Sale to show her support.

Four year-old Phoebe Casson died suddenly on September 17 from a rare genetic condition called LPIN1.

She enjoyed going to Moor Nook Park in Sale, near her home, and when a run-down roundabout was removed, she wanted to know when it would be replaced.

After her death, her parents Ralph and Claire launched a £6,000 crowdfunding appeal to buy a new roundabout for the Norris Road park as a tribute to her.

The family were not prepared for the outpouring of support and double that amount was raised, coming in just shy of £12,000.

On Saturday December 17, a launch event will be held at the play area to officially open the revamped roundabout.

Claire said: “December 17 would have been Phoebe’s fifth birthday and it would be fantastic if as many people as possible came to celebrate the arrival of the new roundabout in her memory.”

Family friend and TV star Ashley Jensen, best known for Extras, Ugly Betty and Agatha Raisin, will be attending the event and Council Leader Sean Anstee will be cutting the ribbon.

As it would have been Phoebe’s fifth birthday, some “5” balloons will be released from the roundabout.

Stagecoach Didsbury Choir, where Phoebe went to drama, will be singing at the event to sing.

The event will take place from 2-4pm and mince pies, mulled wine and tea and coffee will be served afterwards at The Moorfield, in Marsland Road.

The funds left over from the roundabout will going to the Necker Enfants Malades hospital, which is conducting research into the LPIN1 genetic condition.
