THE RSPCA has issued advice after reports of suspected poisoned meat being found in Sale.

Trafford GMP’s South division published a warning after a report of possible poisoned meat – which looked like meatballs - on fields near Fairy Lane.

A dog walker picked up the meat and officers said it was taken to be tested by the RSPCA.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: “The RSPCA would be very concerned to hear that poison may have been put out deliberately.

"We received a report on November 26 of suspicious meat left in the Sale area and would urge anyone with any information to get in touch by calling our 24-hour emergency line on 0300 1234 999."

The RSPCA has offered the following advice to pet owners. If you are concerned that your pet may have been poisoned contact your vet as soon as possible.

They will ask for details of when you suspect the poisoning occurred and symptoms. You may be asked to bring in your pet as soon as possible.

Signs that your animal could have been poisoned vary and can include any of the following: depression, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, breathing difficulties and bad breath, twitching or seizures. Different substances can affect animals in different ways. Some symptoms can take days to appear.

People should be careful when putting down substances to ensure that other animals are not affected (slug pellets and antifreeze in particular) and that substances are properly disposed of, rather than dumping them on a roadside or in a park.

Police are also urging dog owners to be careful when out walking their pets and report any suspicious circumstances on our 101 number.
