THE One Trafford Partnership has donated more than 100 real Christmas trees to community groups, friends of parks groups, schools and charities across the borough.

The trees were collected from a charity ball at Event City and instead of simply chipping them for recycling, One Trafford donated them to community focused organisations who wanted to use them as part of their Christmas celebrations.

Organisations which have requested a tree include Gorgeous Gorse Hill, A Star Community Care and the Toy House.

Councillor Reilly, executive member for economic growth, environment and infrastructure at Trafford Council, said: “Christmas is about giving back, so we are very excited to be able to donate 100 Christmas trees to community focused organisations that will make a real difference to those who need it most.”

“The response has been fantastic; with all the trees finding new homes in only a few days.”

Dot Horan from A Star Community Care in Urmston added: “Christmas is doing a little something extra for people; it waves a magic wand over everywhere. The little extra in our supported living house will without any doubt be a lovely 8ft Christmas tree decorated and twinkling lights. The service users that live in the house will be made up with such an amazing feature.”

The trees were offered for free on a first come first served basis but must have been reserved before collection.
