TRAFFORD school nurses have won an award for going the extra mile to support children with emotional difficulties and their families.

The nurses, who are part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, won one of the trust’s Principles of Care Awards which recognise services that have gone above and beyond to provide excellent care.

The nurses were winners in the Trafford division and were recognised for creating innovative ‘Be Happy’ bunting for young people - a foldout leaflet which lists different activities and lifestyle changes that can improve physical and emotional health.

The guide was developed by nurse Lisa Webster and uses the acronym BE HAPPY to spell out: breakfast, enjoy, healthy, achieve, positive, praise and you, and on the back of each letter is a space for young people to jot down notes and ideas.

The nurses were also praised for developing a Facebook page to communicate with parents about everything from emotional health to vaccinations.

Lisa said: “The Be Happy bunting has been really popular with our young people and with the schools and the feedback we’ve had from parents about our Facebook page has been great.

“They like knowing more about our role and the support we offer children around all aspects of health.”

The team received its award at Pennine Care’s Annual General Meeting on September 28 at Lancashire County Cricket Club, Emirates Old Trafford, Stretford.

School Nursing services in Trafford are jointly provided by Pennine Care and Trafford Council.
