A FAULT with the points at Cornbrook is causing delays across the Metrolink network.

Controllers are currently on site and manually operating the points to allow trams to run.

They were considering a network-wide shutdown of Metrolink after the morning peak period, to investigate the fault, but did not finally need to take this drastic move.

Metrolink tickets for the Eccles line, which is most affected, are being accepted on buses.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) bosses have apologised for any inconvenience caused.

TfGM’s Metrolink director, Peter Cushing, said: “I would like to apologise to anyone whose journey has been inconvenienced as a result of this morning’s disruption.

“We are doing everything we can to keep the system running, including manually operating points to get trams through the Cornbrook junction.

“Unfortunately we need to shut the network down for approximately 15 minutes after the morning peak period to investigate the cause of the fault with a view to returning services to normal.

“We’ll be doing everything we can do keep passengers updated through on-stop and on-tram announcements, display boards, social media channels and our website.”
