Kevin Bryan delivers his verdict on some of this week's alternative CD releases.

Andy White, "Imaginary Lovers" (ALT Recordings)- If there was any justice at all in this benighted world Andy White's lyrically beguiling musings on the human condition would have propelled him to rock stardom long long ago, The gifted Belfast troubadour hasn't allowed his relative lack of commercial success to hinder his creativity however , and he celebrates the 30th anniversary of the release of his debut set , "Rave On," by unveiling his twelfth studio album. "Imaginary Lovers" captures Andy at his most compelling on pared down gems such as "Anywhere With You Babe" and "Lonely International Guy" and should be required listening for discerning music lovers everywhere.

"The 60s Summer Album" (Demon Music)- A typically eclectic archive anthology from the good people at Demon, setting bona fide pop classics from the likes of The Byrds, Lovin' Spoonful and Scott McKenzie alongside contributions from such unlikely bedfellows as Andy Williams, Janis Joplin and Percy Faith and his Orchestra. A few fine examples of sixties psychdelia have also been shoehorned into the sixty track package, including Spirit's "Fresh Garbage," The Creation's minor 1966 hit, "Painter Man" and The Jeff Beck era Yardbirds' frantic "Over Under Sideways Down."

Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, "The Complete Trio Collection" (Rhino)- This exquisitely harmonised collection brings together the two multi-million selling albums that this illustrious trio released in 1977 and 1989, along with a bonus disc featuring a splendid selection of unreleased tracks and alternate takes. Top notch sidemen such as Ry Cooder, David Lindley and Albert Lee provide the finely crafted instrumental backdrop as the three ladies run the gamut from the timeless country of Jimmie Rodgers' "Hobo's Meditation" and The Carter Family's "Lover's Return" to an affectionate revamp of Neil Young's enigmatic "After The Goldrush."

Justin Hayward,"Live in Concert at the Capitol Theatre" (IM3 Global)- Justin Hayward's perennially wistful vocals have graced most of the Moody Blues' finest creations since he joined them as Denny Laine's replacement half a century ago, and this DVD recording of his recent show at the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater Florida captures the cream of his Moodies and subsequent solo repertoire. Guitarist Mike Dawes and keyboard ace Julie Ragins underpin Justin's instantly identifiable efforts as he breathes new life into self-penned prog-rock standards such as "Tuesday Afternoon," "Question" and "Nights in White Satin."
