LLANDUDNO RFC were the visitors to Trafford MV's MacPherson Park for a friendly and left with a 38-17 victory.

In breezy conditions, MV began with some strong running and good set-piece play.

A driving attack down the right brought an early score for supporting second row Andrew Clegg. This was followed by some good forward inter-play which resulted in hooker Ross Anderson scrambling over in the corner.

The home side were playing with confidence but the visitors kept a foothold in the game and it was no surprise when they struck back to narrow the score to 10-5.

With the half-time break approaching, Llandudno scored a timely try which was also converted to nudge them in front.

MV rang the changes for the second half, bringing on several of their young players from their senior colts XV, who were double cup winners last season.

But Llandudno were the first on the sheet before Trafford's new first XV captain Andy Quigley crashed over from good combative forward play, Crampton converting.

After that, though, MV lost control of the game. The changes in players proved too much and although the hosts continued to press, they allowed mistakes in possession and turnovers in the opposition 22 to give the ball away.

The visitors took full advantage, breaking out of defence twice in quick succession to sprint the length of the field for scores.

MV's youngsters all put in good performances which will stand them in good stead for the coming season.

However, Llandudno rounded off their game with a late try – again breaking out of defence.

Trafford MV now face a stern test in the first round of the Lancashire Trophy at Broughton Park on Saturday.

Mini and junior rugby starts at Trafford MV on Sunday, September 4 at 10am and all newcomers are welcome.
