AN Indian expert who founded a Bowdon-based multicultural action group is looking for fresh faces to join her force of volunteers.

Since coming to England from India in 1975 Kalpna Khurana, who lives in Bowdon, has worked tirelessly to help bring people from different backgrounds together and create harmony in the community.

Kalpna, who has also lived in Fiji and Zambia, set up The Harmony Association to promote goodwill and peace through the media of dance and music from a range of countries.

This has seen the former youth worker lecture in more than 100 schools across the region, perform at charity shows and host workshops for the disabled.

She also opens her home up to host special birthday parties for people aged 90 and over and raises money for a variety of charities, including Trafford-based Henshaw’s Society for the Blind.

Harmony has been going strong for nineteen years and Kalpna, now in her 70s, is hoping to bridge the gap between the old and the young.

Kalpna is looking for younger volunteers to help with administration for the Harmony Group and with transporting older members of the group to free music and drumming classes.

“I am often up until 2am working on admin for Harmony and we can only continue our projects if we have more volunteers,” said Kalpna.

“This is a good opportunity for young people who want to build on their CV. They will be able to gain great experience working for a non-profit organisation and be able to get the recommendation from myself as founder.

“I will am also willing to pay for travelling expenses.”

There may also be opportunity for tech-savvy teenagers to use their skills, helping Kalpna with equipment at workshops and digital tasks.

If you aged 18 and over and would like to find out more, call Kalpna on 07417542398 or email kalpna4harmony@yahoo.co.uk. You can also visit Harmony’s website: forharmony.wix.com/info.

You can drop by Altrincham Library, where Kalpna is based every Saturday between 2.45pm and 3.45 pm.
