MOST can only dream of being presented with an award by Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson – but for these young chaps, it was a reality.

British football's most successful manager paid a visit to his old stomping ground for a recent ceremony for the 8th Trafford Boys’ Brigade.

Sir Alex, in his capacity as the Honorary Vice President of the Boys’ Brigade, presented the members with their President and Queen’s Badges at Cornerstone Methodist Church, in Urmston, much to the delight of the lucky recipients.

Michael Guy, from the Brigade, kept the retired footballer’s appearance under wraps, only telling a handful of people, so the visit was a surprise for the boys.

“The lads and leaders alike were all star-struck and very grateful for him giving up his time as he did; it was one of my proudest moments in over 30 years in Boys' Brigade as a boy and leader to see him at our headquarters recognising our hard work which so often goes unnoticed,” said Michael.

“He gave a fantastic speech explaining a little of his experience in Boys' Brigade and how the lessons of discipline and hard work played a part in his future success and was a great lesson for life. He then presented the awards and afterwards took time to sign autographs and pose for photos.”

The brigade is looking for new members from September, aged five to 19.
