CELEBRATIONS have been held for the sixth birthday of the Point, Emirates Old Trafford’s award-winning, multipurpose conference and events venue,

Since opening its doors in 2010, the Point has hosted a series of high-profile events.

These include the likes of The X-Factor, The Voice, Star Wars auditions, the North West Football Awards, Rugby League’s Man of Steel Awards, ITV’s Christmas celebration event as well hospitality for international cricket, Manchester United fixtures and for concerts such as Rihanna and Beyoncé.

The conference and convention centre can host 1,200 delegates, has more than 800 parking spaces and, from summer 2017, a 150-bedroom, four star Hilton Garden Inn hotel.

To celebrate the sixth birthday, the club and LCCC Foundation had a special replica cake made in the style of the Point, which was donated to the Mustard Tree Freedom Project – a charity that is committed to tackling poverty and preventing homelessness.

Daniel Gidney, chief executive at Lancashire County Cricket Club said: “The Point at Emirates Old Trafford has become firmly established as the go-to venue for a wide range of conferences and events in the North West and also played host to many a famous superstar including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger.

"We are delighting to be sending the cake across to Mustard Tree to support their excellent work in Manchester.”

Nathan Whillans, from Mustard Tree, added: “We would like to thank our friends at Lancashire County Cricket Club and the LCCC Foundation for sharing their birthday cake with Mustard Tree.

“Freedom Project participants enjoyed a slice of cake after a day of gaining work skills in their respective departments or attending one of our support-related classes. We would like to wish the Point at Emirates Old Trafford a very happy birthday.”
