MORE than 100 people piled onto a residential street in Sale for a right royal knees up recently.
After securing funding from Trafford Council’s Safer Grants, residents of Roebuck Lane came out in force to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday on June 12.
Neighbours enjoyed afternoon tea, a BBQ, bingo, a raffle and a friendly tug of war between the odds and even houses on the street.
As well as marking Her Majesty’s momentous milestone, the event an opportunity for neighbours get to know each other, make friends and build the community.
Stella Smith, of the organisers, said: “The party was a great success. People of all ages attended, from 0 – 90plus, and everyone enjoyed chatting and meeting their neighbours.
“Some neighbours have lived on the street for 50plus years and some have only just moved in. The afternoon was rounded off with a rendition of God Save the Queen.
"We hope to organise another event later in the year to give people another chance to get together. We'd like to thank Trafford Council's Safer Grants for contributing funding to the event.”
