A DERELICT workshop in Goose Green has been ripped down to make way for a block of thirteen apartments called ‘The Tannery’.

Work has begun on a new part three-storey, part four-storey residential development on the site between Grosvenor House and 11A Goose Green, in Back Grafton Street.

The scheme, designed by Altrincham-based architects Calderpeel, will comprise thirteen one-bed apartments, ranging in price from £139,950 to £159,995.

The ‘dilapidated and dangerous’ buildings that previously stood on the site were demolished to make way for the scheme. The buildings had most recently been used as a workshop and garage but lay empty since 2006, falling into a state of disrepair.

Altrincham Town Centre Business Neighbourhood Forum supported the scheme when an application was submitted to Trafford Council, stating it should ‘kick start the regeneration of Back Grafton Street, as well as providing additional residential accommodation in the town centre’.

Developer Novo Property Group, who obtained the site in 2014, were given the green light for the development in July 2015. It has appointed construction specialist Artez to lead the project.

Ben Fearns, director of Novo, said: “Goose Green has undergone considerable regeneration over the last few years, with a number of new bars, restaurants and fitness facilities appearing.

“We’re thrilled to provide luxury property in a thriving location for young professionals and singles.

“We’re confident that Artez’s vast experience in residential development will ensure the scheme is of the highest quality, bringing a burst of style and elegance to the area.”

The Tannery, which has no allocated car park, is due for completion in December. The apartments have been released, with five plots already reserved.
