PLANS have been submitted to transform the vacant Altrincham Working Men's Club into a restaurant and pavement cafe.

There would also be a microbrewery on the site of the landmark Greenwood Street building opposite the market.

The conservation area scheme has been put forward by David Vanderhook, who has the Lime Bar in Salford Quays and The George Charles bar in Didsbury.

The restaurant would be on the ground floor while the former club steward's flat will be converted into a private dining and function room.

The former games room in the 1887 building will have the three central windows lowered to form French windows, while three retractable shopfront awnings will added to the front elevation, with spot lighting.

A flat roofed single storey extension will be demolished.

A planning application document says the aim is to to "create a family friendly restaurant and bar incorporating a small microbrewery and alfresco dining to the street front."

The scheme will be considered by Trafford's planning committee.
