POLICE are asking residents in St Mary’s East and Ashton-on-Mersey to be wary following a recent spike of burglaries in the areas – and to be on the lookout for a 'bogus' charity caller.
The burglaries have occurred in the late evening and early morning and intruders break into the houses by smashing the glass panels on doors or windows.
Police think the spate could be linked to a possible bogus doorstepper, who has been seen collecting for a children’s charity in the area when the crimes have occurred.
The man is described as white, roughly 5’10, bald and of stocky build. He is known to call at houses after 9pm.
Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 or call Altrincham Police Station directly on 0161 856 7530.
