URMSTON’S ‘Britannia’ pub is getting a £550,000 facelift and rebrand – boosting economy with the creation of 30 new jobs.

National pub operator Punch is investing more than half a million pounds into transforming the Flixton Road pub into a new Champs Sports Bar and Grill.

Champs Urmston will open on June 3 following a 10 week refurbishment and will bring with it 30 full and part time positions.

The premium sports bar, one of seven in the UK, will boast a ‘video wall’ measuring 3.75 metres by 2.10 metres and nine HD TV screens showing wall-to-wall sports, together with sporting memorabilia and boot seating with individual TVs.

It will have an American food theme, with a grill menu, specialising in burgers, steaks, nachos and wings. Andy Wilkinson, concept development manager for Punch, said: “We know that Champs is a winning concept and are delighted to bring it to Urmston.

“The investment will create a premier destination that appeals to a wide range of customer who enjoy fantastic food whilst watching their favourite sport, we’re sure it will be a big hit with local customers.”

As it gears up for its launch, the bar will be holding an open day for prospective employees.

The recruitment day will take place on Thursday May 12 at Urmston Men’s Club, in Higher Road.

Matt Price, who has been appointed general manager at Champs Urmston, said: “If you’re an enthusiastic sport loving person who wants to work in a fun and rewarding environment, then please come along to our open day and see if you can score a job with Champs.”
