A DAVYHULME teacher is teaching his digital-savvy students how to make the most out of modern technology.

Lee Parkinson, a teacher at Davyhyulme Primary School, and ten Year 3 students decided to contact restaurants, takeaways and deli shops in the area to see whether we could offer them a service – to make a website for their business.

Lee said: “As a teacher I am constantly looking for ways to make children's learning purposeful and give it meaning. When it comes to persuasive writing, I wanted to give the children a real experience to hopefully inspire their work.

“We were really glad when a local deli shop got back to us saying they were interested.”

TheDeliNagsHead.co.uk was launched just a couple of weeks later.

With help from Lee, the seven and eight year old students wrote their own websites for the deli and then deliberated and worked as a group on the final project.

“From the moment we started this project, the children have absolutely loved it,” he said.

“They decided on the design and were so focused and engaged as they knew it was all for a real purpose.”

The group also received some great feedback from their clients, The Deli, on Davyhulme Circle, Urmston.

And they have gone one step further and created a 'TV advert' for the deli, which has been posted on Youtube.

“The Deli were amazing and so thankful for the effort and final outcome of the project,” said Lee. “They haven't stopped sharing it since we put it together. They even offered to send some sandwiches and snacks into school as a thank you.”
