PETS at Home Altrincham is urging families to make some small changes to their gardens this half-term and give the great British wildlife a helping hand.

The store, in Altrincham Retail Park, is inviting people to pop in on Monday February 15, from 2pm to 3pm to participate in a free workshop, providing tips and tricks to turn their garden into a wildlife haven.

With the store holding the workshop during the half-term school break, Pets at Home hope for children to get involved.

The store team, led by Sarah Masters, will be informing customers how to make trees, hedges, flower pots and even ponds and compost more attractive to local wildlife.

The team will also talk about a range of topics, including caring for a common garden guest – hedgehogs. Customers will also be taught about the benefits of giving lawn mowers a break, as the longer grass can provide a sanctuary for all manner of insects, moths and minibeasts.

Sarah Masters, store manager at Pets at Home Altrincham, said: “Here in Altrincham, we have a great variety of wildlife making our country unique and great.

“Lending a helping hand to these peaceful animals and industrious insects is very important. Our team will be going through all the small and simple changes that we can all make during a quiet afternoon or over the school break.

“We’ll be covering a wide range of topics in a relaxed and informative atmosphere and we look forward to welcoming pet owners and their pets into store on Monday 15 February.”
