THE region’s first ever Chinese Art Lantern Festival at intu Trafford Centre has been postponed.

The festival was due to launch today, Friday February 5, in time for the Chinese New Year 2016 celebrations on Monday February 8.

20 foot high silk lanterns depicting the Terracotta Army that were to feature as part of the festival have not been completed in time, due to the adverse weather conditions. Organisers and the Trafford Centre are working together to get the festival up and running as soon as possible.

Those who have already purchased tickets for the first few days of the festival are being invited to attend the rescheduled festival – alternatively they can be reimbursed the cost of their tickets.

A spokesperson for intu Trafford Centre said: “Unfortunately we’ve had to postpone Friday’s launch of the Chinese Art Lantern Festival for a short time due to severe winds. The 20ft silk lanterns are created by highly skilled workers who have been unable to work at the required height in the current weather conditions.

“We’re committed to supporting the Festival, and are working closely with the organisers, UKALF, to ensure those customers who have purchased tickets for the first few days are invited to join us for the rescheduled festival or reimbursed the cost of their tickets.

"Customers who have any questions or queries should contact intu Trafford Centre customer service on 0161 749 1717.”
