POLICE are warning residents to keep keys out of sight after a number of ‘hook and cane’ incidents in Urmston last week.
A number of attempted burglaries occurred overnight on November 19 where would-be thieves fed long bamboo canes through letterboxes to try to remove keys from hallway tables.
One such incident occurred on Cumberland Road, in Urmston, at around 8.30pm on the Thursday night.
In a statement, GMP Trafford North said: “Remember to always keep all keys out of sight or in a drawer.
“Now the nights are drawing in, we ask everyone to pay extra attention to your home security.
“Look out for your neighbours and report any suspicious activity in a bid to help drive down burglary as the nights get darker during winter months.”
Anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour or has information in relation to the above crimes are asked to contact police on 101.
