THOSE who gave their lives in service were honoured in a series of Remembrance Services across Trafford on Sunday.

The generations came together to pay their respects to fallen heroes at ceremonies at Bowdon, Hale, Hale Barns, Partington, Sale, Stretford and Davyhulme.

Trafford Mayor John Holden joined civic dignitaries at the borough’s civic service, at the war memorial outside Sale Town Hall.

There were also services at Altrincham – Dunham Road Garden of Remembrance; Bowdon – Bowdon Parish Church; Hale War Memorial, Broomfield Lane; Hale Barns War Memorial Partington War Memorial, Warburton Lane; Stretford War Memorial, Chester Road; Davyhulme War Memorial,, Crofts Bank Road.

There were around 500 people at the Hale Barns war memorial for an interfaith service.

A normally busy main road was brought to a standstill as members of the different faiths stood as one to remember the fallen.

Reverend Roger Clark of All Saints Church said: “One of the very special things about Hale Barns is how we celebrate our diversity on common ground and can come together for a single service of remembrance.”

Matthew Arthur, deputy headmaster of St. Ambrose College, said: “The service is particularly important for today's young men as they remember those who were little more than boys themselves who lost their lives in a barbaric conflict. It is up to the older generation to ensure we minimise bloodshed but stand firm against those who would do us harm.”

Rabbi Amir Elituv said the fellowship seen in Hale Barns was a fitting example for the nation: “This act of remembrance has great inspiration for the wider country, showing how communities can live in harmony and peace understanding each person's individual identity but moulded together as a country through the worship.”

Nasser Kurdy, who was representing the Muslim community, added: “It is very important to remember the sacrifice of those who have gave their loves, because we are enjoying what they created for us today.”

Altrincham and Sale West MP Graham Brady and the Mayor were among the dignitaries who attended a poignant service at Hale War Memorial.
