A LINK between the Xativa film society and the Manchester and Salford Film Society based in Altrincham, has proved that Spanish and English people share a sense of humour.

For, after 71 members of the Altrincham club and 20 members of the Spanish club watched the romantic comedy, Lunch Box in Hindi with subtitles, on September 12 and 18 respectively, they both enjoyed it.

It’s about an Indian wife who sends lunch to her husband at work via a third party who delivers it in a Tiffin Box. When it’s delivered to the wrong man, he starts to correspond with the wife.

Having planned to meet, they never do - although there is a hint of a happy ending.

The twinning came about after Carol Moores, chairman of Altrincham based film society, Peter Wilmers, her husband, and John Grieve, their secretary attended a film conference together.

A presentation was made by Scalarama, a group which promotes community cinema around the world.

This gave Peter, who has a second home in Valencia, the idea for the twinning.

John said: “He contacted the Xativa Film Club and despite usually starting in October, they agreed to show The Lunch Box earlier”

John said: “I couldn’t go but Peter teamed up with Spanish speaking committee member, Mike Hansford who was on holiday in Spain at the time.

“I hope we can share films again in the future - I hope to go next year."
