WILMSLOW Town Council is looking at ways of building on its successful annual events for future years.

It follows the recent stunning weekend events, the Cinema on the Carrs and Party on the Carrs.

The authority supports other top town events during the year including The Wilmslow Show, the Scarecrow Festival, the Wilmslow Arts Festival, the Christmas Lights Switch On, the Wilmslow Food and Drink Festival, the Motor Show and the newly instigated Wilmslow Community Awards.

The chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, Cllr Keith Purdom, said:“The Town Council will, over the next few weeks do a review of the weekend event, consider any public feedback, look at the costs and the benefits and then decide what may be appropriate for 2016.

“We would plan to make decisions about 2016 by this September.”

The outdoor cinema attracted more than 1,000 people who enjoyed a vocal performance from the 80 strong ‘Magic Voices’ choir, directed by Mike Bramhall, before watching and singing along to the Abba inspired Mamma Mia movie.

The Sunday party was attended by up to 2,000 people and included a play area for children, community stalls and the Teddy Bears Picnic organised by Dean Row Rotarians. It was also the day on which the first ever Wilmslow Community Awards was officially launched by the Wilmslow Business Group.

Cllr Purdom said the town council welcomed the incredible amount of hard work put in to many of these events by organisations and organising volunteers groups, in particular retired businessman John Mills.

He added: "The council will give consideration to what events it should directly organise in the future, how these events dovetail with others mentioned and whether additional volunteers and community organisations could and should be encouraged to take on delivery responsibilities for any of the existing council managed events.”
